Cisco is out with findings from its 2019 Data Privacy Benchmark Study, which shows the impact of General Data Privacy Regulation compliance as well as how customers are asking more questions about how their data is secured. Cisco Chief Privacy Officer Michelle Dennedy analyzes the survey.

One key takeaway: Many global enterprises are still not compliant with the EU's GDPR, which started being enforced last May 25.

"We are still seeing lots and lots of companies that are not quite up to speed with GDPR readiness," Dennedy says in an interview with Information Security Media Group. Only 59 percent of enterprises report they are GDPR ready, she says. But far more say they are impacted by the regulation. "Only 3 percent say GDPR does not apply to them, wherever they are on the planet. That's pretty amazing that 97 percent of the planet is covered by a regional law."

In an interview about Cisco's new study (see audio link below photo), Dennedy discusses:

  • The impact of GDPR;
  • How customer privacy concerns impact the bottom line;
  • Privacy as a competitive edge.

Dennedy, Cisco's vice president and chief privacy officer, is responsible for the development and implementation of the organization's data privacy policies and practices.
