AI for Security: One Airline's Experience

ComAir's Ramon Lipparoni on How Aviation Industry Is Leveraging ML
AI for Security: One Airline's Experience

The South African airline ComAir is using artificial intelligence to help mitigate the threat of cyberattacks, says Ramon Lipparoni, the company's IT integration manager.

"AI is helping us automate some of the more complex processes for detecting attacks," he says in an interview with Information Security Media Group. "So when you combine very smart security personnel with ... technology, we start becoming smarter in the industry as well as learning from what is going on around us."

An important next step, he says, involves using AI and machine learning "to help prevent our systems from being targeted," he says.

In this interview (see audio link below photo), Lipparoni also discusses:

  • The challenges involved in adopting machine learning and artificial intelligence;
  • Why the terms AI and ML must not be used interchangeably;
  • Why the aviation industry needs to leverage machine learning.

Lipparoni is IT integration manager with ComAir. He has been in the IT business for the past 20 years, specializing in core business management and integrations management.
