As Communication Channels Evolve, So Should Security Tools

In an increasingly interconnected world where business communications transcend traditional email, safeguarding unmonitored channels has become an imperative task for organizations. Chris Lehman, CEO of SafeGuard Cyber, highlighted the challenges that enterprises face. No matter how many training or awareness programs are in place, Lehman said, "humans are always going to be the biggest wild card and variable in your security strategy."

The expansion of communication attack surfaces to include collaboration tools, such as Slack and messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram, demands increased visibility and control to ensure security. But traditional security solutions are often insufficient, Lehman said. Meeting customers where they are, using these diverse channels, requires stringent security measures.
"More and more attackers are using techniques that easily evade traditional security technologies. They are stealing credentials. Attackers don't just break in; they log in," he said. "And you need technology that can pick up on that fact. You need the ability to understand the message and the text and communication and be able to detect any sign of an attack that's going on."
