Framework for a New ID Ecosystem

Draft of Model to Be Previewed at RSA Conference 2015
Framework for a New ID Ecosystem

What is the new Identity Ecosystem Framework, and why is it so important for security professionals to embrace? Kimberly Little Sutherland of LexisNexis Risk Solutions shares insights on the future of online identity.

Sutherland, the senior director of identity management strategy at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, also serves as the chair of plenary for the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group, which developed this new framework. The model will be showcased during a briefing at RSA Conference 2015.

"In its most basic sense, [the framework] is about developing a set of minimum guidelines that are aligned with the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace," Sutherland says.

"There are many ecosystems out there today," she adds. "But they don't always have a lot in common when it comes to standards and processes to identify and authenticate digital identities. So, that's where the framework fits."

Version one of the Identity Ecosystem Framework is on pace to debut this summer, Sutherland says. But security leaders can get their first look at it during RSA Conference. The session, titled "Coming Soon: A Preview of the Identity Ecosystem Framework," will be held Wednesday., April 22, from 4 to 5 p.m. in Room 300 on the Esplanade Level of the Moscone Center South in San Francisco. Michael Daniel, special assistant to the president and White House cybersecurity coordinator, will appear as a special guest to discuss the role of identity at the intersection of security and privacy.

In an exclusive interview, Sutherland previews both the framework and the conference session. She discusses:

  • What the Identity Ecosystem Framework is;
  • How organizations will benefit from it;
  • How individuals can get involved now with the framework's development.

Sutherland is responsible for identifying and guiding LexisNexis' solution response to the constantly evolving market needs for identity proofing and authentication in commercial and government organizations. She also serves as the plenary chair of the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group, the national organization formed by the White House's National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace to administer the development and adoption of the Identity Ecosystem Framework.
